Treating Chronic Fatigue and Adrenal Fatigue Naturally

Treating Chronic Fatigue and Adrenal Fatigue Naturally

by Dani Veracity (Natural News)

The easy, relaxed lifestyle experienced by our ancestors no longer exists, and we’re not even aware of how much stress we’re under. The problem? “Our lifestyles have changed, but our bodies haven’t,” Dr. James Wilson said in his November lecture at the First Arizona Choices Exposition in Tucson, Ariz. A large portion of our population is feeling tired and stressed out, and we want to know why.

The adrenal glands sit over the kidneys, where they play a significant role in the body, secreting more than 50 hormones necessary for life, including epinephrine (adrenaline), cortisol, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), progesterone and testosterone. Since they produce so many essential hormones, the adrenal glands are responsible for many of the functions we need to stay alive and healthy, including:

What The World Eats

This photographic report exposes the proliferation of processed foods in the western diet and in the diets of many developing countries the world over. Is it any wonder that we are seeing increases in diet & lifestyle related diseases? What are your thoughts?

About the project:

These images are from the book ‘Hungry Planet: What the World Eats’ by Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluision. It’s an inspired idea, to better understand the human diet, explore what culturally diverse families eat for a week. Their portraits feature pictures of each family with a week’s worth of food purchases. We soon learn that diet is determined by largely uncontrollable forces like poverty, conflict and globalization, which can bring change with startling speed. Thus cultures can move, sometimes in a single jump, from traditional diets to the vexed plenty of global-food production. People have more to eat and, too often, eat more of nutritionally questionable food. And their health suffers.

The Acid-Alkaline Food Guide

We have come across this interview with Larry Trivieri that contains a lot of useful information about acid forming foods in the body. Many of todays illnesses and general body discomfort are caused by having a too acid body. We all know that it is important to include lots of leafy green vegetables and limit our intake of carbohydrates but here are some concrete reasons why this is a good way to eat.

Dr. Susan E. Brown and Larry Trivieri, Jr. are the authors of a book called the Alkaline-Acid Food Guide. It is a short read and quick reference on the extent to which foods affect the pH balance in our bodies. The book is based on compiled research from a number of important scientists who spent their life documenting the pH effect of thousands of foods and drinks. The authors do an admirable job of summarizing all this effort in a very simple manner for everyone to appreciate. Nevertheless, the 80-plus pages of food tables in their book are very useful even to professionals.

Their major premise is that the modern diet tilts the body’s pH toward the acid range, which has negative health consequences. The kidneys, lungs and skin must work overtime to balance body pH toward the alkaline. They do so by borrowing alkaline minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium) from bone and tissue. Muscle is also broken down to obtain alkalizing amino acids (i.e., glutamine). Over the long haul, bones weaken and muscles waste away to compensate, and aging is accelerated. Osteoporosis, muscle loss, kidney stone formation, joint and back problems are among the conditions associated with even a slightly acidic state. The authors also describe many other problems and chronic conditions that could result from what they term chronic, low-grade acidosis.

Microwaved water kills plant in home grown experiment

An experiment conducted at home for a high school science fair five years ago has verified the dangers of microwave ovens not only to humans, but even to plants and other organic matter. The experiment showed that microwaved water given to a plant causes the plant to wither and die within days; however, another identical plant given water that was boiled on a conventional stove grew normally during the same time period.

Many studies conducted throughout the world have repeatedly highlighted the deleterious effects of microwave ovens on human health. In fact microwave ovens are so dangerous that they were banned in Russia from 1976 to 1987. Twenty years of thorough research by Russian scientists convinced them that the dangers of the devices outweighed the benefits in cooking time. This experiment further verifies their findings.

Change your cancer gene

If someone told you to, “Change your jeans!” you would probably think, “OK, I have been wearing them for a week now, I’ll give them a wash.” Yet if someone told you to, “Change your genes!”, then your response might be a little less acquiescent and might go something like, “Change my genes? I can’t change my genes, that’s what genes are…unchangeable! I can’t change my genetics, that’s who I am. Leave me and my genes alone!”

Such a wildly disparate response to a simple change in spelling. If that second response though, is one that you agree with, then think again. Your genes may be set, but how they are expressed is not and that is the science of epigenetics. What new research is now showing is that certain vegetables reduce your chances of cancer, and may even treat cancer, via epigenetic effects. That is, some vegetables can change how your genes express themselves and in so doing give your health a major boost.

We have known for a long time, perhaps forever, that vegetables are good for us. Mostly we have understood that in terms of their nutritional content; we know that vegetables provide you with the vitamins and minerals that your cells need to function optimally. Now knew research has shown that some vegetables provide more than nutrition, they provide substances that impact how your genetic material expresses itself and that means they impact your health and specifically your cancer risk.

Mediterranean diet: Choose this heart-healthy diet option

Mediterranean diet: Choose this heart-healthy diet optionMediterranean Diet Pyramid

The Mediterranean diet is a heart-healthy eating plan combining elements of Mediterranean-style cooking. Here’s how to adopt the Mediterranean diet.

By Mayo Clinic staff

If you’re looking for a heart-healthy eating plan, the Mediterranean diet might be right for you. The Mediterranean diet incorporates the basics of healthy eating — plus a splash of flavorful olive oil and perhaps a glass of red wine — among other components characterizing the traditional cooking style of countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

Most healthy diets include fruits, vegetables, fish and whole grains, and limit unhealthy fats. While these parts of a healthy diet remain tried-and-true, subtle variations or differences in proportions of certain foods may make a difference in your risk of heart disease.

Why not getting enough sleep can cause you to gain weight

A new study out of Columbia University says that sleep deprivation can cause a person to eat roughly 300 more calories a day than normal, which can ultimately lead to weight gain and obesity. Reported at the recent American Heart Association conference in Atlanta, Ga., the study provides insight into what could be a substantial contributor to the obesity epidemic — inadequate rest.

Marie-Pierre St-Onge, an assistant professor of clinical nutrition medicine at Columbia, and her colleagues evaluated 26 normal-weight men and women who normally all adhered to healthy sleeping schedules of between seven and nine hours of rest a night. On two separate evaluations for the study, however, half the group was instructed to sleep four hours a night for six nights, and the other half was instructed to sleep nine hours a night for six nights.
